Mass Casualty

*Just a disclaimer reminder...Antilaghi Fire Dept. resides in the virtual world of Second Life. The only things damaged in the story below were some random pixels and my butt from sitting at my computer for so long.....*

The day started out a little like this...a quiet and rather uneventful Easter Sunday in Second Life. No rush...no worries...just peace and quiet. Except for my pager......

[2014/04/20 10:28] SL-EMA Minitor IV Pager: Attention Antilaghi Fire Dept: you have a reported aircraft crash. Repeat: you have a reported aircraft crash. SL-EMA Firecom clear @ 10:28

Well...so much for peace and quiet. Most likely some rookie single engine pilot decided to do something wrong and screwed up. No worries...we'll wrap this up quick and be back in time for Easter dinner. Yeah...right.....

[2014/04/20 10:30] :: ((GMARS-1)) 790: 790 responding to the station
[2014/04/20 10:31] : :{GMARS-1} SL-EMA FIRECOM (RoxanneKnave ): copy 790 responding at 10:31

Little did I know....

Approaching the station I see this scene. So much for Easter Dinner. As I pull up to the station the radio crackles again:

[2014/04/20 10:31] : :{GMARS-1} SL-EMA FIRECOM (RoxanneKnave ): 790 be advised passing boaters are reporting that this is a plane INTO the terminal with fire.

The start of the bad day...Engine 795 enroute with one...me!

I had no idea the roof looked like this. Yet.

Our normally calm and cool dispatcher's heart apparently leapt into her throat. MABAS 79-901 is a box alarm that hasn't been used yet.

Airport Security Nick Fairport arrives on scene

Dispatcher Roxy Rimgale drops the dreaded call for help

2014/04/20 10:39] : :{GMARS-1} SL-EMA FIRECOM (RoxanneKnave ): SL-EMA Firecom to ANY available department monitoring GMARS frequencies...Antilaghi Fire has called MABAS 79-901 for a MASS INCIDENT at their airport. Help slowly trickles in from mutual aid departments - West Metro Fire Rescue arrives with a tower (Matt O'Reilly)

As more mutual aid companies start to arrive the scene takes a turn for the worse. Firefighter Brent from Alvensleben Volunteer Fire Dept. makes a nasty discovery on the roof.....

[2014/04/20 11:10] :: ((GMARS-1)) 790: FIRST aerial set up on the west side ahead of our tanker
[2014/04/20 11:10] : :{GMARS-1} F.I.R.S.T. - CEO - M. Shu (Mikey Shu): 10-4. getting settled now. will call back once I'm ready to attack.

Poor SKF. You can see "Oh my god..my poor airport" written all over his face

The aircraft fuel-fed fires are very difficult to knock down.

The roof, unknown to us on the ground at the time, was a very dangerous place.

The fire starts to burn even hotter. The wreckage of the plane is very unstable too

Antilaghi Chief Engineer Helly Solvang instructs a member of another department

[2014/04/20 11:14] Carla Laville (carlalynn2003.laville): the tower crew reports a second aircraft crashed on the roof
[2014/04/20 11:14] Mr. Shu (mikey.shu): holy christ
[2014/04/20 11:14] Carla Laville (carlalynn2003.laville): up ahead of our tanker
[2014/04/20 11:14] Carla Laville (carlalynn2003.laville): its worse
[2014/04/20 11:14] Carla Laville (carlalynn2003.laville): theres an attack helo up there fully loaded with missiles
[2014/04/20 11:15] Carla Laville (carlalynn2003.laville): we have to get a foam curtain on that or we're screwed

See what I meant about the roof wasn't exactly the place to be?

An unknown member of the Second Life Coast Guard helps Antilaghi firefighter James Quinn fight the roof top fire

Re-positioning the tower after F.I.R.S.T.'s suddenly has to leave for a call in there home sim
Antilaghi firefighter James Quinn and the unknown SLCG member start to make some headway but not enough
2014/04/20 11:17] :: ((GMARS-1)) 790: command to roof crew. Brent?
[2014/04/20 11:17] : :{GMARS-1} FirefighterBrent : go ahead

Surveying the roof from the tower with Alvensleben firefighter Brent (who yes got reamed for not having his mask on)

Civilian air support is called in for a slightly unorthodox strategy

As the helicopter readies for it's first pass across the roof the radio crackles again:

[2014/04/20 11:25] : :{GMARS-1} FirefighterBrent : URGENT
[2014/04/20 11:25] : :{GMARS-1} tnick3 : FIRST tower 221 to IC there is a  civilian female running on the roof
[2014/04/20 11:25] : :{GMARS-1} FirefighterBrent : JUST FELL
[2014/04/20 11:25] :: ((GMARS-1)) 790: command go ahead brent
[2014/04/20 11:26] : :{GMARS-1} FirefighterBrent : Female just jumped off roof
[2014/04/20 11:26] : :{GMARS-1} tnick3 : -.-

SKF's reaction after hearing about the civilian that leapt from the roof top....
And if that isn't enough...suddenly a new problem crops up...the aircraft suddenly drops to the ground!

Lt. Martin Mendle (783) attacks the fallen aircraft with a handline
Meanwhile Brent and the Tower crew start to make some headway with the building fire now that the aircraft has fallen.
[2014/04/20 11:55] : :{GMARS-1} ARAFR F-17 Quinn (MikeStoker ): requesting permission ot grab an extinguisher and head to the roof to try and cool the military helo

An SLCG Helicopter watches for dangers as PMR lines up for another water drop

As we finally start to get some good news something goes wrong...Antilaghi Fire Dept Lt. Martin Mendle is struck full on by a 1500 gallon per minute "blast" of straight stream water from the tower.

In his haste to knock down the last of the aircraft fire, Brent turns the tower too quickly and blasts Lt. Mendle across the tarmac

2014/04/20 12:39] : :{GMARS-1} FirefighterBrent : MAN DOWN!
[2014/04/20 12:39] HD Attack Line (v1.40): Opened hose valve.
[2014/04/20 12:39] HD Attack Line (v1.40): Closed hose valve.
[2014/04/20 12:39] James L. Quinn (mikestoker) kneels down and checks his pulse
[2014/04/20 12:39] Carla Laville (carlalynn2003.laville): looks like we may need a new Lt
[2014/04/20 12:39] Martin Mendle (martijn.mendle) lies on the ground moaning.

[2014/04/20 12:46] Martin Mendle (martijn.mendle): I don't know, i was standing there, doing my business, and next thing I know I'm hit by water, and everything went black.

In the end, I didn't need to replace my Lieutenant. He's a pretty stout guy

Aside from the jumper, lt. Mendle was the only reported injury.

[2014/04/20 12:46] : :{GMARS-1} FirefighterBrent : FIRE IS OUT AT THIS TIME
